*“Summer camp is a great opportunity to explore about ourselves, face our fears, take up new challenges, push our boundaries and accept ourselves. It is the suitable time to wallow in the luxury of leisure days, making effective use of the time to aspire, get inspired and acquire new accomplishments.”*

Grand Finale of the invigorating and exhilarating Xav Summer Retreat’23 commenced with extending a warm welcome to the esteemed dignitaries, teachers and enthusiastic campers followed by the traditional lamp lighting ceremony. The Director-Principal, Mr. John Rafi was felicitated by Headmistress – Middle Wing, Ms Geeta Kanwar. Our gifted Xaverians exhibited a mellifluous performance which was loved by one and all. Our effervescent Xaverians of Grade VI were felicitated for participating with great fervour and zeal in the 9-day summer camp. Our young thespians touched the heartstrings of everyone present there with their impeccable theatrics. They left the audience completely spellbound and mesmerized. This was followed by the felicitation of Grade VII campers for their utmost dedication and diligence. The budding dramatists of Grade VII and VIII showcased their polished acting skills and artful articulation through a stage play on Time Management. Subsequent to this, the Grade VIII campers were felicitated. The Director-Principal’s address filled everyone with motivation and new vigour.

To add to the ebullient environment, our spirited dancers presented a foot-tapping performance that was a treat to the eyes. The students enjoyed the last day of the summer camp thoroughly where they were given some time to groove on the peppy dance numbers. The overall mood of our eager campers was of jubilation and everyone seemed to be truly happy.

It was a perfect culmination of a flawless

9-day event. Children left home happy and contented. They had collected beautiful memories of the time spent with their friends. Wishing all the Xaverians exultant Summer Holidays!

‘What we learn with pleasure we never forget!’

We are thrilled to report that our summer camp has been a resounding success so far! Xav Summer Retreat, 23’ provided our little campers, a blend of fun and discovery with activities designed to encourage children to experience new information about the world in which they live and build their creativity.

The day was initiated with morning meditation, followed by a therapeutic art session that filled the students with new energy and zeal. Theatre forms like street play and mime jubilated the children. It provided an opportunity for our campers to explore new things, delve deeper into areas of their interests, become self-reliant and enhance their social skills. Our young guitarists continued learning by comprehending new strumming patterns. Jazz enthusiasts tapped their feet rhythmically to match the melodies played. The Youth Parliament had students participate with full enthusiasm, while they were able to analyse the importance of Legislative bodies and the Constitution of India.

The students demonstrated their culinary skills by preparing some delectable ‘Russian Salad sandwiches’ in the fireless cooking club while our young journalist learnt about the journey of reporters.

Ms Monisha Makhija regaled our young prodigies with an insightful and entertaining session. She highlighted the importance of Creative Writing and shared her journey in the world of writing and several strategies for publishing articles and books.

The Tech wizards explored the designs and templates on ‘Canva’ for the newsletter in E-Designing Club while our budding artists took creative liberties to paint the canvas with their imagination.

Overall, it has been a wonderful week, filled with joy, laughter, and lots of fun. Our little campers navigated this exciting world filled with endless possibilities under the watchful eye of camp instructors, there’s no doubt they emerged more robust and confident than ever before.

Day 7 of Xav Summer Retreat '23: A Day Equipping Children with Skills-based Learning

Grades VI-VIII

On Day 7, our campers began their beautiful morning by indulging themselves in yoga practices and warm up exercises aiming towards a perfect blend of physical, social and mental well being. They tried their hands on a new technique of Decoupage- an art of decorating an object by gluing coloured paper cutouts onto it in combination with special paint effects, gold leaf, and other decorative elements. In Journalism, the young reporters were asked to compare and analyse the news articles published by various leading newspapers.

Theatre forms like stage play and mime jubilated the children. Dialogue, in literature, is a verbal exchange between two or more characters. Hence, the budding writers were taught the fundamentals of fiction through dialogue writing in the English Writing Activity.They were also overjoyed to master the culinary skills when it came to preparing cheese nachos and choco laddoos during their Fireless Cooking session. Everyone relished the innovative dishes that these little chefs served.

In addition to this, the children showed exuberance while learning the nuances of Vocal Music, Guitar and Jazz. They were thrilled to make a circuit of push button controlled LED in STEAM. While in Financial Literacy, the presentation given by the children on 'I am financially literate now' was much appreciated by the mentors. Our aspiring leaders debated on the need to conserve our energy during their Youth Parliament session.

The fruitful and engaging day culminated with fun-filled activities building confidence in Xaverians and making them independent.

Day 6 of Xav Summer Retreat '23 was a great opportunity for our campers to explore new things, delve deeper into areas of their interests, become self-reliant and enhance their social skills. The pleasant morning began with a wonderful combination of fun-filled activities and games like 'Fire in the mountain' and 'Frog Jump' that filled the students with new energy and zeal. Our animated Xaverians were spellbound by the conjuring and sleight of hand tricks showcased by the magician, Mr. Manoj. He captivated their imaginative minds with his enigmatic card tricks, fascinating handkerchief tricks and provided them with many magical memories to cherish lifelong.

Our aspiring chefs went on an exploration spree as they visited Barken Bakery at CRPF Camp Road. It was a learning experience for them as they not only learnt about the baking process but also witnessed it closely. They also got the opportunity to taste some of the most flavoursome treats of the bakery like muffins, different breads, cup cakes and sandwiches.

The students spent their time in understanding the musical note values in the Vocal Music session and immersed themselves completely in the mesmerising world of music. Our young guitarists continued their learning by comprehending new strumming patterns and conducting finger exercises. Our emerging thespians practised their proficient skills through a street play and honed their dialogue delivery. The Jazz enthusiasts tapped their feet rhythmically to match with the melodies played.

In Journalism, the spirited campers analysed various types of news and their content such as crime, civic, economy and real estate. They endeavoured to comprehend the significant role of sources in journalism and the nuances of investigative journalism. In English Writing Club, our budding wordsmiths concocted unique, engrossing and twisted tales based on wide-ranging themes. In sketching, the young artists created a masterpiece using Gond Art and still objects in 2D.

The enthralling day encapsulated an enriching experience for our campers by way of multifarious and creative activities curated to keep them engaged, entertained and also educate them beyond the curriculum.

On Day-5 of the Xav Summer Retreat ’23, the exuberant Xaverians zealously participated & showcased their diligence towards each planned activity of their choice beginning their day with stretching and breathing exercises followed by dance therapy where students were overjoyed in displaying their best dance moves. To talk of various activities, a gift bag using paper and beautiful sketches were shaded by the students in art and craft. To showcase their creativity in English writing, students wrote a letter to their future selves. Tech wizards explored the designs and templates on Canva in e-designing and learnt about colour coding resistance and measurement of resistor using multimeter in STEAM activity. Students learnt about budget in financial literacy and demonstrated a parliamentary session in their youth parliament class. Students moved freely with the jazz moves in their dance activity, sang melodious renditions in vocal music and played various chords in their guitar class. To tickle the senses of the palate, campers cooked scrumptious hung curd sandwiches and a delectable Cinderella drink. The budding journalists of Xavier’s learnt about breaking news in detail, intensive investigation done by a reporter and how reporting is done live on screen. The theatre enthusiasts improvised gibberish and mime during the session. Day 5 of the Xav Summer Retreat ’23 aimed at keeping the students engaged & provided them an even platform to explore and express their creativity, in every form.

By this vision, Day 4 of Xav Summer Retreat '23 has been a resounding success so far! It offers a perfect amalgamation of learning and fun so the students can have an all-around learning experience while enjoying their summer holidays. Beginning with the morning meditation followed by a nature walk was an unflappable session, which had beneficial repercussions on the camper’s physical and mental health. The students immersed themselves in a profusion of riveting educational and recreational activities with great energy and zest.

The eventful day comprised various enthralling activities one better than the other. An interactive session with Dr Shalini Mullick was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone present and offered a great opportunity to all the budding and aspirant writers to put forth their doubts and learn the nuances of writing.

In addition to this, the students demonstrated their culinary skills by preparing some delectable “dahi vadas” in the fireless cooking club while our budding artists took creative liberties to sketch beautiful landscapes.
The campers explored the World of Technology by learning the tools and templates for the creation of a newsletter in the E-designing Club. The Theatre Club encouraged dramatic presentations by students in the form of mimes and plays. Music and Dance clubs were exhilarating sessions enjoyed thoroughly by the students.

Overall, it has been a wonderful four-day journey, filled with joy, laughter, and lots of fun. We are proud of our little campers and can't wait to see what the rest of the summer has in store for them! Here are some adorable pictures of the children enjoying their time at camp. The third day of the Summer Retreat aimed at keeping the students engaged and provided them an even platform to explore and express their creativity, in any form. It initiated with morning meditation, yoga and warm-up exercises.

The eventful day comprised plethora of splendid activities. The campers learnt Flower Shading techniques in sketching, money management in Financial Literacy and important elements of Story Writing namely Exposition, Rising Action, Climax, Falling Action, Resolution in English Writing Activity.

The students immersed themselves into the healthy way of preparing Indian style Pizza- Khakhra Pizza during their Fireless Cooking activity. Journalism session was a big hit where the students were explained in detail the difference between quote and byte and five important parts of a press release.

Exploring the world of Technology, the students picked up numerous tools like Change Background Colour, Add Text and Resize Font Style in E-Designing and had fun learning different units of measurement in their STEAM session.

Music and Dance clubs were great stress removers. To conclude, the exuberant learners zealously participated and showcased their diligence towards each planned activity of their choice.

With the objective of developing physical, mental, psychological and social aspects of our dynamic Xaverians as well as enriching them with endless opportunities, the second day of Xav Summer Retreat '23 initiated with morning meditation, yoga and conditioning their mental well-being. The students immersed themselves in a plethora of interesting educational and recreational activities while having an amazing time.

In addition to this, an interactive session with the two inspiring authors, Reeham Ahmed and her mother Ms. Sahana Ahmed was the cherry on the cake. The young prodigy shared her inspirational journey of being an author and her support system i.e. her mother always being at her side. The session was very informative and filled our aspiring young authors with new zeal and spirit.

The eventful day comprised various enthralling activities one better than the other. Be it the shading techniques in sketching, fun-filled tongue twisters in theatre, learning a new melody in vocal music, mastering the chord progression in guitar, dancing to the rhythms and techniques of jazz or learning intricate concepts like Ohm's Law in STEAM and trading & exchange rates of different currencies in financial literacy; all the activities were well planned and immaculately executed keeping the optimum learning graph of the students in mind.

All in all it was a day filled with laughter, hope and energy. The students got the golden opportunity to interact with their peers, learn new knowledge, information and games that nourished their imaginative thinking copiously.

Xaverians experienced their first day of an unforgettable summer filled with learning, growth and fun at 'Xav Summer Retreat ’23' where the students explored their passions and expanded their horizons through a variety of exciting clubs, beginning with meditation, conditioning and mental well-being session.

Day-1 witnessed an overwhelming response from the students of Grades VI- VIII for an array of activities such as vocal music, sketching in art, journalism, creative writing, e-designing, fireless cooking, guitar, theatre, jazz dance, youth parliament, financial literacy and a fun filled science show. We at Xavier’s believe that such activities help students rejuvenate and build a strong foundation for a better tomorrow. It is an amazing opportunity to give each student a summer they will never forget.

"Tell me and I'll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I’ll understand."

Show and Tell activities help the students to master the skill of public speaking through the beauty of language. The students of grade III enthusiastically participated in the Show and Tell competition on Endangered Species and filled the classes with an array of emotions and melodies of thoughts.

The competition inspired the young learners to come forward and showcase their talent and confidence. Some budding learners presented their self-composed lines and recited them with great fondness and zeal. The participants from all Grade III sections mesmerised the audience with the perfection of expression, thoughts and emotions related to extinction of animals.

Their brilliant voice modulation, precise diction, poise and elegance left everyone awestruck.

The Children of Grade 2F presented Class Assembly

on Mother's Day on 15.05.23. They expressed their love and affection for the most important person of their life. They recited Poems and depicted Super Hero moms who have played an important role in shaping them.

Children danced to the tune of Aisa Kyu Maa...with great enthusiasm.

The assembly ended with words of appreciation for the children who participated in the assembly by Director Principal Sir and Headmistress ma'am. Sir also shared how important mothers are in our life and respecting them throughout our life has to be our major priority.

St Xavier's High School has organized an Inter-House English Debate Competition

“Power to the voice is Power to the People.”

St Xavier's High School has organized an Inter-House English Debate Competition on Thursday, May 11, 2023 for the students of Grades VI -VIII. The aim of organizing debate competition was to hone the public speaking skills of the students and teach them to be articulate while expressing their thoughts and opinions. The session was the kaleidoscope of opinions, thoughts and perspective that enhanced the knowledge and understanding about the topic – “Technological Advancement poses a greater threat than population growth does to the health of our planet.” The topic was unveiled with the teams a day prior to the commencement of the competition.

It was set up in the British parliamentary style comprising of four teams from all the houses with four speakers- the Principal, first, second and reflective speaker from each team. Two teams proposed the motion and other two teams opposed the motion.

With so much intensity in the air, the competition began with a three-panel jury. The viewpoints of the participants captivated the audience with cheers and claps. The team members deliberated on the motion, contested each other’s points of view, and finally presented some astute points from all sides of the spectrum. The pinnacle of the competition was the rebuttal from opposing and proposing teams with brain storming questions and prompt answers in highly assertive manner. Four Reflective speakers who put forth their points eloquently in a strong convincing expression finally summed up the debate.

The adjudicators expressed highly appreciative inputs and offered a valuable feedback for all the participants with a special mention on clarity of mind-set and thoughts. At last the motion was carried.

Commemorated India’s 1st Nobel laureate on the pious occasion of Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti on 9th May!

From poetry & songs to short stories & plays, Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore was a prolific writer & an ekphrastic artist. St. Xavier’s High School paid tribute to the deity of art & literature on his birth anniversary by showing a video on the life of Tagore followed by a confabulation regarding the same in class. The informative session concluded with a composition based on the life and works of Sh. Rabindranath Tagore which was penned down by the Xaverians of grades III- V .

Celebrating the tradition of excellence at St. Xaviers’ High School, Sector 49 the diligent and perseverant Xaverians of Grades VI – XII ( Session 22-23 ) were recognized as well as felicitated for their scholastic success and accomplishments The event was initiated with the arrival of the Chief Guest -Mr. Banwari Swaroop – Former Director, Ministry of Defence, Joint Secretary UPSC Defence & Additional Controller General of Defence Accounts, Business Head and Operations Head, North India ,Director Principal – Mr. John Rafi, Middle Wing Headmistress - Ms. Geeta Kanwar, Pre-primary Headmistress – Ms. Aparna Chandra, Senior Co-ordinator – Ms. Swati Rana and Primary Co-ordinator – Ms. Geetha Parmeswaram. The guests were felicitated by the Director-Principal. This was followed by the customary grand processional march of our stellar scholars walking the glorious gait earned by their persistent, assiduous and unwavering endeavours.

The auspicious lamp lighting ceremony was conducted by all the distinguished dignitaries. The Director Principal, Mr. John Rafi addressed the scholars and shared his inspiring thoughts.

The dextrous young Xavierians showcased diverse, soulful and zestful performances under the effective mentorship of the accomplished teachers. Be it the choir or western dance; the promising artists were beyond comparison. The profound scholars of Grade VI-XII for the session 2022-23 were felicitated by the honourable dignitaries for the pursuit of excellence in academics and commitment to lifelong learning. The dedicated students with 100% attendance were also felicitated for their sincerity and devotion to duty followed by the felicitation of the distinction holders of Trinity Speech and Drama Course. The Cock House Trophy was bagged by St. Nicholas House for the Middle School and St. Raphael House for the Senior School for displaying unmatched prowess in all areas.

It was an overwhelming experience for the parents to witness this epic moment and capture it in still as well as motion pictures to cherish as lifelong memories. Scholars’ Day culminated with the words of wisdom from the Chief Guest, Mr. Banwari Swaroop followed by the Scholars’ recessional march.

Debate is the backbone of democracy, for it allows for the discussion and analysis of various viewpoints - Unknown

On 10^th May 2023, an Inter House Debate competition was organised for grades IX and X in British parliamentary style comprising of four teams from all the houses with four speakers- the Principal, first, second and reflective speaker from each team .Two teams proposed the motion and other two teams opposed the motion .This was decided through a draw of lots.

The Topic “Education Imparted in India is better than Education Imparted Abroad” was unveiled with the teams two hours before the commencement of the competition. Since the topic required rigorous research and preparation, the contestants were seen in deep discussions with their mentors, or working and reworking on their speeches. With so much intensity in the air, the competition began with a three panel jury. The view points of the participants captivated the audience with cheers and claps. The team members deliberated on the motion, contested each other’s points of view, and finally presented some astute points from all sides of the spectrum. The acme of the competition was the rebuttal from opposing and proposing teams with brain storming questions and prompt answers in highly assertive manner. The debate was finally summed up by four Reflective speakers who put forth their points eloquently in a strong convincing expression.

The adjudicators expressed highly appreciative inputs and offered a valuable feedback for all the participants with a special mention on clarity of mind-set and thoughts

Director Principal Sir addressed the gathering, shared his perspectives, congratulated the effort of each participant and thanked all those involved for organising a flawless event.

Investiture Ceremony was conducted on 6th May, 2023 with zest, zeal and enthusiasm

The most prestigious ceremonial occasion of the school, Investiture Ceremony was conducted on 6th May, 2023 with zest, zeal and enthusiasm. The Investiture Ceremony is a momentous occasion wherein the school entrusts hope, faith and mantle of responsibility to the newly appointed school cabinet. This ceremony signifies the reliance and confidence that the school consigns in the new office bearers. This event was attended by our very special Guest of Honour Rev. Ben dang Toshi.

The celebration commenced with a speech by our esteemed guest wherein he guided the council members to be role models and render their responsibilities sincerely. The processional march was a proud moment for all the students which was followed by the lighting of the lamp and blessings were bestowed on one and all by the honourable Reverend Bendang Toshi. Our esteemed Director Principal, Mr John Rafi administered the oath of allegiance to the newly appointed Board of Students’ Council, who swore to serve their responsibilities with utmost sincerity and to the best of their abilities. The Director Principal also addressed the gathering and motivated the students. He advised them to keep their vision clear for the achievement of their goal by performing their duties with full dedication. He then congratulated the newly elected Students’ Council and emphasised the significance and reminded them that they are the torch bearers of all the values that the school stands for and urged them to take responsibility with commitment and integrity. The proud parents’ happiness knew no bounds when badges and sashes were conferred on the newly elected Students’ Council.

The zeal of the council was reflected in their confidence and dedication to execute their work. The ceremony concluded with an energetic dance performance presented by the students, which spell bound the audience and enhanced the vibrance of the event. The event concluded after the commissioning of the flags and recessional March.

The Investiture Ceremony for the 2023-24 office bearers was held on 22^nd April 2023 in the School Atrium. . To scale the heights and reach the pinnacle of success, the school always strives to inculcate a sense of commitment and responsibility among the students with their heads held high as the future leaders. The investiture ceremony was held with such a motto to invest the students with a sense of responsibility and duty.

The Guest of Honour Rev. Samuel Richmond graced the occasion and blessed the newly elected Student council as well as parents of newly elected office Bearers who were present to witness the ceremony .The ceremony commenced with the lighting of the lamp followed by melodious choral presentation by the students of Grade IX.

The student council was administered by Honourable Director Principal and their badges were pinned up on them by Rev Samuel Richmond, Headmistress (Middle Wing)Ms. Geeta Kanwar , Headmistress (Junior Wing) Ms. Aparna Chandra , Senior Coordinator Ms. Swati Rana .House and Sports Captains and Head Girl and Head Boy also received corresponding sashes.

Director Principal Mr John Rafi in his address welcomed the guest of Honour Rev Richmond Samuel, Distinguished Guests and Parents. He congratulated the Council members and added that the student Council body of the School represents values of righteousness, responsibility, integrity and leadership. Director Principal shared anecdotes that were inspiring. He laid stress on students being responsible portfolio holders, and urged them to use this opportunity to break out of their own shells by setting benchmarks of exemplary behaviour. He further extended his gratitude to all those who contributed and supported for the success of the Event.

Towards the culmination the House flags were handed over to the House Captains and the School Flag to the newly appointed Head Boy and Head Girl.
