‘PRAYAS’ – A BEGINNING!

NEW

“We hope to pioneer a concept where we believe that we can change the world through our compassion”.

We at St Xavier’s High School believe in ‘Learning by Doing’. We’re adopting a system wherein the learners will inculcate not only the gift of giving but also recognize their own ability to nurture the gift of education which they’ve received. The idea is to create a connection between children from all walks of life. Education is then understood as a tool to bring about change. To be more aware and to grow kinder through educating and getting educated in return too.

‘Prayas’ is a Sanskrit word which means ‘effort’ or ‘attempt’ to do a task.  Under the aegis of ‘Prayas’ a project for children, the learners of Grade VI conducted a wonderful interactive session with the students of Grade II & III. Students were divided into various groups and covered all the sections of Grade II & III. The topic was ‘The Grace of Being Polite’. Our Students exceptionally taught their junior peers with the different teaching methodologies like role play, skit, storytelling and games. ‘Prayas’ helped our senior students to practice life skills and improve their knowledge and teaching skills. Concurrently, junior students were provided with a valuable learning experience which is qualitatively different to their traditional teaching.

    “STRINGS OF FAITH”

    NEW

"Every child deserves a champion; an adult who will never give up on them, who understand the power of connection and insists that they become the best they can possibly be”. Rita f. Pierson

In keeping with our promise to pro-actively reach out in forms of workshops and seminars we had a powerful interactive session with parents of Grade -VII under the programme “Strings of Faith” which is an initiative of St Xavier’s High School. The aim of the workshop was to help parents to learn how to resolve their child’s concerns, their mutual differences and identify the ways of tackling challenges. It also helps to explore the concepts and importance of guidance and discipline in a child’s life. Workshop conveyed an influential message to the parents that folk wisdom is right after all— “Seeing is believing.” What kids see and believe, they become the same. Each and every day, parents build a legacy for their children to inherit.

WORKSHOP ON “IDENTIFICATION OF LEARNING DISABILITIES’

        NEW

“Those who educate children well are more to be honoured than they who produce them; for these only gave them life, those art of living well.”

        -Aristotle-

Teachers of a school are one of the most inspiring factor which influences a student’s life and achievement. We at St Xavier’s High School, Gurgaon believe that training and supporting teachers is critical and should be taken on as a mandatory process in the school.

The School Counsellor shared her hands on experiences over an interactive session with teachers of PN to KG on the topic ‘Identification of Learning Disabilities’ on 9th and 10th August’2017. The Workshop covered the meaning, types, causes, identification and some common signs of Learning Disabilities.

Often having no significant symptom of a learning disability but having certain clues was emphasized upon. Due to the special requirements of such students, a need to adapt different teaching methodology and the delivery of instructions to meet the appropriate need, becomes imperative!  It was an enriching learning as the school counsellor also shared her expertise to enhance teaching strategies and techniques used by teachers.

‘Two sides of FREEDOM.’ Street Play by Xaverians

              NEW

Following this wonderful phrase quoted by ‘William Shakespeare’ in his famous novel ‘As you like it’, the proud Xaverians performed a street play on the topic ‘Two sides of FREEDOM.’

The play began with a crucial insight of the Indian society and the issues we Indians are facing till date. Be it voting or girl education, India still needs to put in a lot more to move beyond the horizon. This energetic play was witnessed by around 80 people. This excessively convincing street play performance emphasized the need to respect and uphold every woman’s right to freedom, right to vote and self respect.

It was intertwined with many implicit and dominant dialogues which infused a great message. This message aimed to enlighten the masses about the need of the hour. About the vitality of education! This also brought about the best of the abilities and skills of the students by giving them great exposure.

Through this play, the children drew the attention of everyone towards the most important foe of Indian society i.e. ‘Lack of freedom of thoughts, speech and actions.’ They also talked about various ways to curb this evil and beckoned the audience and charged up the atmosphere with a patriotic spirit.

St. Xavier’s High School, Gurgaon has always been unique in all its ways. We are extremely proud of our passionate students who executed the entire play with utmost zeal and enthusiasm.

Everyone’s greatest joy is expressing the cohesive thought within a 'body' of work that can be shown in its entirety. Hence, every artist ought to be an exhibitionist. For showcasing the talents of our young exhibitionists and artists, beautiful projects, posters, comic strips, bookmarks, charts, travelogues, scrap books, magazines, art and craft work etc. made by the students during their summer break were on display. Hundreds of exhibits and displays dotted several subjects and themes with participation ranging from classes IV to IX and the entire stilt area became a celebration, showcasing it all.

With the prime objective of applauding and acknowledging the creativity of our students and with a focus of engaging children and parents to synergize experiences and get motivation for designing and developing more and more innovative and creative projects in future, this exhibition turned out to be another success story. It got an overwhelming response from everyone! All the parents stopped by to appreciate the commendable effort put in by the children during their summer break. The presentation, ideas, overall feel and expression of the entire arena was indeed outstanding! We congratulate all the children for leaving all the spectators mesmerized and making this exhibition one of its kinds.

‘Blue Fun Day’ was celebrated in Pre- Nursery classes as the children came to the school in blue casual dresses. This was our way to introduce colour ‘blue’ to them. They also brought blue objects and pictures to display in the class which was already decorated with blue balloons.

To make the day more fun-filled children played the game, ‘Hide and Seek’ where blue objects were hidden in the class and the children had to find them. The children coloured cute dolphin pictures to take home.
