Xavierians scribbled the world with Collins joining them

Language gives you freedom to express what you want to say. When you have limitations, you choose it wisely. When you are limited further you become ever wiser.

The importance of words was realised by the students of grade VI, VII & VIII when they participated in the Inter House Scrabble Competition organised in association with Collins India Ltd.

The organisers,  along with their team head, took a preliminary workshop of the students and taught them the rules of the game.

Students were then divided according to  their houses who competed against each other. 60 students from grade VI, VII & VIII were thrilled  to explore the art of playing scrabble and were delighted as they were awarded with a certificate each at the end of the game.

    Being Thankful

     The monthly theme of “Community Helpers” of Class Pre Nursery culminated with the presentation of “Thank You” cards to the Community Helpers of our school.

    We at Xavier’s believe that showing appreciation doesn’t need to cost money and when the children gave handmade cards to the class nanny, guard, washroom nanny, gardener and the others who make our lives easier they couldn’t hide their smiles.

      Costume Party- Community Helpers

      Today the children of Pre-Nursery proudly walked up to the stage dressed up as community helpers.

      Doctors, nurses, police officers, fire-fighters, pilots and teachers, the little ones looked as cute as ever.

      The dressing up activity added to their growing knowledge of these everyday heroes.

        Visit to the Fire Station

        The children of Pre Nursery classes were taken to the Fire Station in

        Sector 29 to learn about Firefighters as a part of  the monthly theme ‘Community Helpers’.

        They were shown how Firefighters use their fire trucks in an emergency.

        Looking at the children’s excitement, the Firefighters showed them how they use the fire hose and made the children hear the siren of the Fire engine. The children got a hands on-experience on fire safety too.

        They gave a ‘Thank You’ card to the Fire fighters to express their gratitude for their commendable work.

        It was indeed an informative and fun-filled trip for them. The children also took away a Fire engine craft home.

          ADOLESCENT HEALTH EDUCATION AND COUNSELLING

          St Xavier’s High School organized a workshop on the topic ‘Adolescent Health Education and Counseling’ for girls and boys of Grade VI & VII separately on 9th & 11th October, 2017. Workshop was conducted by our School Counsellor Ms Manpreet Sandhu.

          The workshop aimed to facilitate awareness and knowledge about physical growth and puberty; adolescent body image concerns; menstruation; eating practices for staying healthy and managing emotions during adolescence period. As the workshop began students were initially shy but it was evident that they had a lot of unanswered questions. Gradually, they opened up and shared their experiences wherein, they candidly put forth their view points about puberty, problems experienced related to the body changes and their expectations about guidance from the parents, teachers and adults in their life. Our school counsellor discussed in detail about the definition of puberty, the endocrine system, and the changes at puberty that both girls and boys experienced. The development of new body hair, body odor and good hygiene were also discussed in detail. She also mentioned that hormones trigger the social and emotional changes experienced during puberty. These experiences include independence from parents, new friends, and new romantic feelings. It was an enlighten workshop for the students.

            WORKSHOP ON EFFECTIVE SOCIAL SKILLS

            St Xavier’s High School believes that Social Skills Development is a lifelong process and is a crucial part of our success in life. Social skills are the skills we use every day to interact and communicate with others. They include verbal and non-verbal communication, such as speech, gesture, facial expression and body language.

            St. Xavier’s High School, Gurgaon organized a wonderful workshop for the students of Grade III on 24th October, 2017 to enhance social skills amongst students. Workshop was conducted by the School Counselor Ms. Manpreet Sandhu.

            The School Counselor highlighted some of the prerequisites for effective communication, including: self-confidence, ability to understand what people want, enthusiasm, eye contact and showing interest in the other person’s conversation, with the help of various role playing activities. She guided students to respect yourself - stand up for yourself and don't let yourself be talked into doing stuff that you know is wrong or makes you feel uncomfortable. She also mentioned that ‘bullying’ and ‘harassment’ should never be tolerated and be sensitive to other people's feelings. It was an enriching learning experience for students as they understood the importance of positive behaviour in one’s lives.

              Inter House Rangoli Competition

              To introduce our children to the value of Indian culture and to develop the skills of creativity and art of innovation amidst the students, St. Xavier's High School, Gurgaon eminently puts another step forward. 

              On the auspicious occasion of Diwali, for the students of grade IV to IX, an Inter-House Rangoli Making Competition was conducted in the school premises. Students of all the four houses participated with great enthusiasm.

              In this one and a half hour long competition, the students tried to prove their talent in the best possible way. The entire Atrium area was decked up with beautiful and creative designs made by the students.  They showcased their flair in the art by making beautiful Rangoli designs using geometrical shapes, deity impressions and floral motifs. Rangoli colours, flower petals and diyas were used to decorate the Rangolis. 

              The adjudicators had to face tough time to judge the magnificent Rangoli's. Overall, along with it being a great learning experience, the creative expression of art through colors was a feast to everyone's eyes. All the Rangoli designs were highly appreciated and applauded by one and all.

                Food Donation Drive at St Xavier’s

                Xaverians understood the true meaning of the quote “No one sleeps hungry today” when they participated in the Food Donation Drive organised by the school. This was spread over two days ,16th and 17th October, where the students could contribute. Students from Pre-primary to grade IX enthusiastically took part in this event.

                Over whelming response in the form of generous portions of dry food material was collected and donated to the church on 17th October. Principal Mr. Nicholas Gomes addressed the assembly and explained the significance of this drive. He also enlightened the children about the importance of charity in one’s life and how a little effort of every single hand can lead to big results.

                As charity begins at home, the little children are learning to grow old to be the future torch bearers. The day ended on a promise to feed as many as we can within our means.
