The students of Grade 5 of St. Xavier’s High School, visited  the Kodak Mahindra Bank, Sector 49, Gurugram on December 28, 2018  with the aim of getting the educatees  grip with the idea of monetary value and the different denominations of the banking sector . The duration of the visit was 45 minutes. During the visit the students learnt about working of the ATM machine. The ATM room had two close circuit cameras and a guard. They learnt how to swipe the card and enter the PIN and also were cautioned against of the misuse of PIN, there after the students were taken to the main office. The main office comprised of four counters -cash counter, passbook counter, enquiry counter and deposit counter. The bank manager warm heartedly welcomed the students in his cabin and briefed them about his job profile and the various rolls performed by him- how he accesses each banking operation minutely through the camera and the television installed in his cabin to ensure smooth functioning of the various financial transactions. 

The students were explained the difference between nationalized and private banks. They also got acquainted with the different types of bank accounts and how to open an account, filling of pay in slip to deposit money, withdrawal of money through cheque. The educatees were very curious to know how and where the money is stored and how the ATM machines are refilled. The bank staff was quite supportive and provided the pupils with relevant information for the queries put up by them and also well equipped them  some practical and hands– on knowledge of basics functionalities of the bank. Lastly, the young Xavarians were overwhelmed by gaining insightful information regarding this sector they thanked the manager by presenting him with the school memento and returned with substantial knowledge regarding the banking process to which they were earlier not exposed to and found the visit enlightening and worth visiting.

Inter Class Competition – Design your own Printable Currency

In this era of cut throat competition, St. Xavier leaves no stone unturned in order to prepare its students for the best! On December 17, 2018, an Inter Class ‘Design your own printable currency’ competition was organized for the students of St. Xavier’s High School. The students of grades V, VI, VII and VIII were alloted the countries India, Russia, UK and USA. Using different softwares, the students designed their own printable currency of different denominations and named it as ‘XAVIONOTES’.  The Xavionotes were designed keeping in mind the country allotted. The students had to mention their respected Principal sir’ name in issuing authority and they also added the school’ motto – ‘Explore, Engage & Excel’ on their Xavionotes. The students thoroughly enjoyed the activity and took utmost pride in designing their Xavionotes and were very happy sharing the same. Followed by the competition, an exhibition was organised on December 27, 2019 wherein the students sold items like handmade jewellery, coins and ornaments made of clay modelling, mix media painting and handmade jewellery. All these items had the theme coins and currencies. They were sold against the newly designed printable currency which were named as Xavionotes.

For developing the personality and for nurturing every aspect of the student’s lives, it was indeed a great initiative.

“Joy to the world, the Lord has come, let earth receive her King…” with these notes, on the 15th of December, St. Xavier’s High School, Gurugram hosted its Second Inter School Carol Singing Competition ‘EMMANUEL: A Musical Consonance!’

Christmas is such a joyous time of year which brings abundance of warmth and faith. The saga of theInter School Carol Singing Competition was held in the school with a lot of colour and vigour. The merriment of Christmas was celebrated with heartiness and fervour by the zealous participation of a number of schools from Delhi and NCR.

The event was graced by the esteem presence of Dr.AmanBathla, world’s fastest piano artist, Awardee with Dr.RajendraPasad Award, Mr. N. M. Bhatia and Mr.Sagar, eighth degree holder from Trinity College of London. The event also witnessed the charisma of the Director of St. Xavier’s group of schools, distinguished school Principal, Headmistresses and many teachers and students from revered schools across Delhi/NCR.

The programme commenced with the cake cutting ceremony followed by the school song. The enthusiastic performances of all the schools left the audience mesmerized. The melodious treat was indeed a splendid way to ring in the season’s serenity and each performance came to a closure by the resounding claps of the spectators.

All the participants performed exceptionally well but in category A (Grade V – VII) the winners were DAV Public School, Sec - 49, Sherwood Convent School, Gurugram and Lions Public School, Gurgaon. They bagged the first, second and third positions respectively. In category B (Grade VIII-X) the first position was bagged by Sherwood Convent School, Gurgaon, the second position was won by DAV Public School, Sec - 49, and the third position was won by ManavRachna International School, Sec - 14, The soulful performance of the talented music facilitator of St. Xavier’s Ms. Rhema left the audience gaping.

The entire programme concluded by the impeccable presentation showcased by the dancers of St. Xavier’s who had truly set the stage on fire with their tapping footsteps and synchronisation.The Chief Guest, Dr.Aman Bathla, stated that he felt highly honoured and elated to have witnessed the children singing so well. He lauded the vision and the effortput in by the students and their facilitators for presenting such a fabulous show. At long last, ‘We wish you a Merry Christmas’ was the only chant which was on everybody’s lips.  The event once again proved that music is life. It is … A higher revelation than all Wisdom & Philosophy!

To make the students learn the value of currencies in the chosen countries and understand the concept of exchanging currencies a power point presentation activity was organised for the students of grades IV, V and VI on December 13, 2018.A detailed discussion on currencies of Russia, UK, USA and India was done done which was followed by a Group Discussion Session. 

Graphs are the best ways to demonstrate trends in data and make comparisons between different groups.”

On December 7, 2018, St. Xavier’s High School set a benchmark for conducting activities in such a way that the students not only enjoy but also learn a great deal from it. With the same perspective in view, before the winter break began, a Bar Graph Making Activity was done with the students of Grade VI.  This activity was organised to initiate the understanding of the currency conversion of the four countries-India, Russia, USA and UK and also to study the difference in the travelling charges for 10 days, of the mentioned countries. The students were briefed about the significance of Bar Graphs, which are used for direct comparison of data.Data for the expenses of travelling to these countries, for 10 days was collected by the students in tabular form, which included different charges- Visa, Hotel, Flight, Food, Sightseeing. All these charges were converted into one single Currency (Rupees). With the help of the activity, the students learnt the value of currencies and very well understood the concept of exchanging currencies. Which doing the research work for the same, they also got a better understanding of how and why exchange rate fluctuates. Using this data, a graph was prepared by all the students, which helped them understand the differences of travelling charges of different countries.

“Understand your worth. Value your life. Appreciate your blessings”

Life is a beautiful gift of God and one should learn to value it. For every human life is roller coaster ride, the ups and downs in one’s life give them lessons for life. People end up complaining about the things they never got in life, whereas there are others who despite having resources are unable to make the best of it. On occasion of World’s AIDS Day the students of St Xavier’s High school decided to take an initiative and talk about the taboo topic of AIDS and break the barrier of primitive thinking. The students aimed to bring awareness about the deadliest disease to which no cure has been diagnosed. The only cure to the disease is the prevention against it. The assembly began by seeking Lord’s blessingsfollowed by the news updates. The students also talked about the causes, prevention and cure to the disease. The assembly also had a synchronised choir which sang harmonious prayer song to bring hope and aspiration to the people struggling with this painful deadly disease.Two students also recited self-composed poems creating the aura of good spirit and motivation to beat the stress of disease. The nimble feet of the dance troopshowed a very soulful performance showcasing the plight of the people struggling through the trauma of AIDS. The audience was spellbound to see the contemporary dance form and could relate to the performer. The theme of the dance focussed on the fact that life is too ironic, it takes sadness to know what happiness is, noise to appreciate silence, and absence to value presence.

The school principal Mr.Stanley Anthony also addressed the assembly and talked about spreading the awareness about the disease.

The assembly concluded with the National Anthem leaving everyone inspired to build an acceptance towards the dealing with disease and helping them have a comfortable normal life routine.
