Dr. E. Sreedharan – The Metro Man of India
In the series of 'Rags to Riches' stories, students of Grade VIII D conducted the morning assembly based on the inspiring journey of Dr. E. Sreedharan, famously known as The Metro Man of India, with great enthusiasm and pride. The theme of 'Rags to Riches' was perfectly captured through his rise from the humble beginnings to becoming a transformative figure in Indian infrastructure.
The assembly began with a morning prayer, invoking divine blessings for wisdom, strength, and determination—qualities that defined Dr. Sreedharan’s remarkable life. The Thought for the Day was a perfect reminder of Dr. Sreedharan’s fearless vision and dedication. The Word of the Day - 'Perseverance' was a key trait exemplified by the Metro Man throughout his journey. The News Headlines kept the students informed with national, international, and school news, helping them stay updated with current events.
The main highlight of the assembly was the stage play, portraying milestone projects from Dr. E. Sreedharan’s life:
• The Pamban Bridge rescue mission, where he restored the collapsed bridge in record time, showcasing his engineering brilliance and crisis management.
• The revolutionary construction of the Konkan Railways, highlighting the challenges of building through tough terrain, and the determination that led to success.
• The vision and execution of the Delhi Metro, a turning point in India’s urban transport, brought to life with impressive visuals and dialogue.
Each scene was powerfully enacted, leaving the audience inspired and deeply moved by the magnitude of Dr. Sreedharan’s achievements.
To engage the students further, a short quiz was conducted based on the scenes presented. Questions focused on the challenges, values, and contributions of Dr. Sreedharan, reinforcing the learnings from the play.
The assembly concluded with an energetic and uplifting dance performance, symbolising India’s growth and progress, paying tribute to the visionaries like Dr. E. Sreedharan who paved the way for the country's development.
The entire presentation by the students was well-researched, beautifully coordinated, and delivered with passion. It successfully instilled values of hard work, perseverance, and vision—true to the spirit of 'Rags to Riches'.
