        Student Council Election 2019-20

        NEW

“The ballot is stronger than bullet”

Elections are an important and integral part of Indian democracy. St.Xavier’s High School

has taken a small step to make the students aware of the democratic process of electing

candidates by conducting elections for its Student council members.

Student Council is the formal student-led governing body of the school. Elections were

conducted under the supervision of the Electoral In charge and the Electoral members, in a

democratic way on 14th May 2019 in the first two slots. The polling was held in a smooth

manner. The teachers as well as the students were equally enthusiastic about the event.

The students were asked to nominate themselves for taking part in the elections a few days

prior to the final day of voting. All the candidates under the supervision of teachers, presented their

manifestos, made campaign speeches in the school assembly. Each class witnessed a good

number of student nominees who were confident to become the representatives and all the

voters excitedly cast their votes in favour of their chosen representative. The votes were put in

proper ballot boxes which were made by the students themselves.

It was an interesting affair altogether.

Street Play on ‘Mera Matdaan : Meri Taquat’: Importance of casting a vote.

            NEW

‘To make democracy work, we must be a nation of participants, not simply observers!’

Keeping up the tradition of creating awareness and bringing a change, on May 9, 2019, the students of St. Xavier’s High School, Gurugram stepped forward and staged a street play on the theme ‘Mera Matdaan : Meri Taquat’: Importance of casting a vote.

‘Like every vote counts, yours too. If you want to make a change, you should cast your vote.’ In each segment of the play, the above quote was brought to life. Aspects like ‘Why is it important for a citizen to vote in elections? Why is it taken as our basic responsibility? Why is it important to vote in democracy?’ were made prominent.

The young artists laid emphasis on the fact that voters need to be educated about the process and made aware of the political parties, their manifestos and background of the contesting candidates. They should be armed with all possible information which will further make them confident in casting their vote.

The message conveyed to the crowd watching it was made crystal clear. The street play had put forward many questions, few answers and most importantly a message that left a deep impact on each and every person’s mind witnessing the play.

With an aim to empower citizens and spread awareness on voting, the young Xavierians did an excellent job. Realizing the fact that the process of voting acts as a gateway to various forms of civic engagement, the show was very well able to invoke civic consciousness  and was applauded and highly appreciated.
